The SUSTAIN project has officially launched its Blueprint for Institution and Capacity Building under Work Package 2. Co-funded by the European Union, this core operational document aims to revolutionize how Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Vietnam and the Maldives engage with society.
The University of Dubrovnik (UNIDU) took the helm in drafting this vital framework. The document targets the university's "Third Mission," the purposeful connection between higher education and external communities, industries, and public authorities. While many partner universities already lead community outreach, they often pursue these efforts in fragmented ways. This new framework moves universities away from isolated initiatives toward deeply embedded, structured institutional governance.
Key target areas include training academic and administrative staff, updating middle management, and introducing practical operational tools like CSR guidelines and stakeholder mapping frameworks. Crucially, the roadmap seamlessly weaves two cross-cutting priorities into everyday university operations: green and sustainable development along with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Through a blend of virtual sessions, co-creation workshops, and collaborative physical mobilities, the Blueprint establishes a durable foundation. This directly prepares participating HEIs to pilot, adapt, and scale socially responsible practices for long-term regional impact.
